Many considerations go into the concept of each step stool, but foremost is stability. Notice how each stool's ground contact extends well beyond the edge of the "step" portion. This ensures there is no tendency or even the slightest feel that the stool will tip. The step rails are 2¼ inches wide at each end, providing a larger area for attaching the sides. Instead of mounting the sides with simple dowels and glue, pocket holes are cut inside the step and rails to accommodate 1¼ inch #8 steel screws. Each side is attached with four screws and then the pocket holes are capped for safety. The step, rails, and sides are crafted from ¾" cabinet-grade hardwood veneer plywood and are incredibly strong. Three to four coats of safe, nontoxic, acrylic latex paint are layered on for a deep silky smooth finish. The end result is a beautifully crafted product that is rock solid and conveys a feeling of safety to children.
